General Introduction
1. Historical Development
School of Software, funded in 2002, was one of the first software colleges in Jiangxi with the permission of provincial government.
2. Disciplinary Construction
Software engineering is the only undergraduate major of our school, however, two other first-level disciplines have been authorized to confer Master degree. They are project management, and managing science and engineering which is the key discipline and the important one to be developed as a doctoral major according to “the twelfth five year plan” of Jiangxi province.
3. Talent Cultivation
With the fourteen-year development of the undergraduate’s major, there have been 5 directions to breed more professional talents. They are software technology, software testing, virtual reality, software development for Mobile Terminal, as well as application and development of business software. School of software, a college with 2245 full- time students in total, has always attached great importance to nurture student’s creative ability. Therefore, fruitful achievements, including over 70 prizes in all kinds of national technological competitions and more than 240 provincial prizes, have been made during the past 5 years.
Focusing on the project-driven teaching mode under the tutorial system, which means establishing working places,or known as software studio, and the operating mode, also named cognitive apprenticeship, just like a company to teach and manage students, we have created a special feature. That characteristics is to nurture students with the project-driven teaching mode, focus on the abilities needed in the industry, cultivate students by school-enterprises cooperation, strengthen the practical abilities through software competitions and improve teacher’s quality by both external recruitment and internal training.
4. Teaching Staff
Currently, School of Software employs 47 teaching staffs including 4 professors, 11 associate professors, 2 province-level famous teachers and 3 who are granted as “the outstanding teacher” of institutions of higher learning in Jiangxi province. Besides, among these teachers, there are 15 doctors, 1 post doctors, 1 doctor graduating overseas and 5 PhD candidates.
5. Science and Research
Remarkable achievements have been made in terms of science and research. 11 projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and 21 province-level projects of science and research have been approved to the teachers in School of Software. In addition, teachers also hold 6 horizontal projects, 31 teaching reform projects, and 3 provincial teaching projects. What’s more, 91 papers of science and research have come out, of which 6 were on SCI and 30 on EI. Other works, including 26 papers of teaching research, 3 treatises and 1 teaching material book, were also published. Furthermore, teaching staffs have gained 4 provincial reward for science and research, 1 patent for invention and 1 first prize for teaching projects.
6. Social Service
School of Software have been making contributions to the economic and social development in Jiangxi by making full use of the advantages of talents. Over the past 14 years, teachers of the school have created a managing platform for teaching reform, another managing platform for the retirees of Social Security Bureau of QingShanHu Lake community, as well as such software asMeiLiJia.
7. International Cooperation
International exchanges and collaborations have been extensively conducted, especially over the past 3 years when 30 student were sent overseas to further their study as postgraduates. Meanwhile, in 2003, a practical center of project teaching co-funded with Oracle was established in consistent with the emphasis of enhancing international cooperation between overseas companies and the School of Software
