The university adheres to the mission of serving the economic and social development of Jiangxi and its educational endeavors, fulfilling its role as a talent pool, engine, and intellectual source in Jiangxi's strategic development.

In recent years, the university has actively aligned with the strategic emerging industry layout of the provincial Party committee and government, promptly adjusted the layout of academic programs as well as the main direction of scientific and technological innovation, integrated the advantages of talents in related disciplines, and actively connected with Jiangxi Province's 1269 Action Plan for the modernization of key manufacturing industry chains and the provincial major science and technology special project 2030 Pioneer Project. It has achieved important innovative results in continuous flow chemistry, freshwater fish, new materials, new energy, VR technology, and new traditional Chinese medicine. The key technology of intelligent micro-nano continuous flow manufacturing developed by Academician Chen Fen'er has broken through the bottleneck key technology of multi-step continuous and micro-nano equipment manufacturing, promoting the development of the pharmaceutical industry in our province.

The university has actively carried out cooperation with local government and enterprises, and promoted the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. In 2024, its income for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements reached more than 26 million yuan. It has co-established digital industry college, healthy industry college, and Beidou Aoxiang industry colleges with local government and enterprises. The digital industry college has been selected as a key project for the construction of modern industry colleges among general undergraduate colleges. Beidou Aoxiang industry college and healthy industry college have been approved as cultivation projects.

The university has leveraged its strengths in teacher education to serve the high-quality and balanced development of basic education in Jiangxi. It has cooperated with Nanchang, Ganzhou, Shangrao, Xinyu, Jiujiang, Ganjiang New Area and other regions to run 17 schools. It has actively played the role of a think tank and brain trust for local economic and social development. The Regional Development Research Institute and the Institute for the Research of the Revitalization of Chinese Soviet Areas have been selected as key high-end think tanks and key cultivation think tanks in Jiangxi Province respectively. The Jiangxi Economic Development Research Institute and the School of Journalism and Communication have been selected as Jiangxi Social Science Youth Innovation Teams. The Institute for the Research of the Revitalization of Chinese Soviet Areas, Jiangxi Economic Development Research Institute, Social Transformation Research Collaborative Innovation Center, Management Decision Evaluation Research Center, and Industrial Upgrading Development Research Center have been included in the Chinese Think Tank Index (CTTI). The Institute for the Research of the Revitalization of Chinese Soviet Areas has been selected as one of the top 100 university think tanks in China by CTTI.

In the past five years, more than 200 research reports generated by the university have obtained over 300 comments from leaders at provincial, ministerial or above-level, among which, five comments from central government leaders, 90 comments from provincial or ministerial-level leaders.
